What the heck? My QuickBooks window won't respond and I just hear a 'ding' whenever I click somewhere!
This frustrating problem happens when QuickBooks opens a window that is hidden from view, and also requires your input.
It shouldn't happen, I know - but it does.
What makes things worse is that QuickBooks remembers window positions from session to session - a useful feature, certainly, and doubly annoying when your window positions are what's causing the problem.
Thankfully, the solution is fairly simple.
First, you have to close the offending window. Since you don't know what it is, usually, simply pressing Ctrl+F4 may not be the way to go. Sure, it'll close the window but you may lose whatever information it may be prompting you to provide or confirm. If you're sure it's OK to close, though, Ctrl+F4 will do the trick. If you can't use it, try this: press Alt + spacebar (and release), then press X (to maximize the hidden window). Now you should be able to see it! You may also press M instead of X to move the window, and use <-- or --> keys to relocate the window to where you can see it.
Second, you need to reset the window layout to its defaults. In QuickBooks, this is accomplished by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C from the main screen. Exit QuickBooks after performing this operation to save the default layout. Start it back up, and you should be good to go!
